ERC-8004 Agents Surge Across Blockchain Networks with BNB Chain Leading the Charge
The adoption of the ERC-8004 standard has led to a surge in artificial intelligence agent deployments across various blockchain networks. However, BNB Chain stands out as the clear leader, boasting an impressive 44,051 active agents.
This milestone is attributed to the network's early adoption of the standard on March 4th, which triggered a wave of new launches and cemented its position as the most active hub for daily agent creation. Ethereum ranks second with 36,512 registered agents, while other EVM-compatible chains have also seen some activity.
The ERC-8004 standard enables the linking of each agent to a non-fungible token, allowing for on-chain activity tracking and reputation scoring. This innovation has opened up new possibilities for agent autonomy, enabling them to interact with smart contracts and participate in decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems. Nevertheless, only a handful of agents have reached significant positions on the leaderboard.
As the ERC-8004 standard continues to gain traction, its impact on existing payment protocols like X402 remains uncertain. The X402 protocol recorded an initial spike in activity but has since dropped to a lower baseline, raising questions about its dependence on agent transactions. Solana, meanwhile, maintains its own native standard based on Virtuals Protocol and has not adopted ERC-8004.
