Indonesia, Russia Unite Against Transnational Drug Crime in Bali

Indonesia and Russia have signed an agreement to strengthen their cooperation in cross-border drug eradication efforts. The partnership, which will run from 2026-2027, aims to target hotspots such as Bali, where a clandestine mephedrone laboratory was discovered involving Russian nationals last year.

The collaboration focuses on the exchange of real-time intelligence data and synergy between law enforcers and immigration authorities to optimize monitoring in drug-prone areas. Indonesia and Russia also agreed to enhance information sharing on new psychoactive substances, including those disguised as e-cigarettes.

Moreover, the two countries will bolster digital-based monitoring by conducting capacity-building programs in digital forensics, cyber investigation, and tracking crypto assets used for money laundering. Indonesia will also increase public education and prevention efforts, imposing severe penalties on foreign nationals involved in drug syndicates operating within its borders.
