FIFA World Cup Goes Digital: Indoor Venues and Blockchain Integration
The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature four indoor venues with retractable roofs and climate control, giving teams an unexpected edge in performance. These stadiums are Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, AT&T Stadium in Dallas, NRG Stadium in Houston, and BC Place in Vancouver.
With the tournament running from June to July across the southern United States, fully air-conditioned matchday environments can be a game-changer. By removing weather as a variable, players competing inside these climate-controlled domes can perform closer to their baseline capabilities.
The compressed tournament schedule and wider range of climate conditions make recovery management more important than ever. The 2026 World Cup is the first edition to feature 48 teams, expanding from 32, resulting in 104 total matches. This means that groundskeepers inside enclosed venues need to manage turf health without natural sunlight.
FIFA's digital collectibles platform, FIFA Collect, has surpassed $25 million in sales to date, built on the Avalanche network. The organization also announced Kraken as the Official Crypto Exchange Supporter of the tournament, aiming to drive fan activations and boost crypto asset adoption across North America and Europe.
