Revolut Ditches USDT as EU's MiCA Deadline Looms
Revolut, Europe's largest fintech service serving around 65 million customers, has set an August 31, 2026 deadline to discontinue support for Tether's USDT stablecoin due to European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) compliance standards. This decision comes after Revolut secured its MiCA authorization through Cyprus's financial oversight body, CySEC.
The platform has begun alerting users via email and in-app notifications about the phase-out process. Purchasing USDT will be possible until July 6, while new deposit capabilities for the token will cease on July 30. Users can still liquidate their positions or transfer tokens to external wallets until August 31 at 12:00 PM GMT.
Afeter this deadline, any remaining USDT holdings in Revolut accounts will be automatically converted to fiat currency based on prevailing market rates. Tether has chosen not to pursue MiCA compliance, rendering USDT unavailable on authorized European platforms.
