Governments Scramble as Quantum Day Looms: Q-Day Timeline Revealed
Paul Soliman, founder and CEO of Hacktiv Colab Inc. and Chairman of BayaniChain, recently spoke about post-quantum cryptography and blockchain in Taiwan, warning that the clock is ticking for Q-Day.
The term Q-Day refers to the point when a sufficiently powerful quantum computer becomes capable of defeating public-key cryptography, which protects much of the digital world. Governments, banks, cloud platforms, identity systems, blockchains, and digital wallets all rely on asymmetric cryptography, including RSA and elliptic-curve cryptography.
A quantum computer could solve the mathematical problems these systems depend on, breaking encryption and compromising confidentiality. Soliman emphasized that this threat is not just about future security, but also about protecting information generated today from being decrypted in the future using a powerful quantum computer.
