Agentic payments, a key concept in the crypto space, are still in their early stages of development according to Dragonfly Managing Partner Haseeb Qureshi. While some industry leaders have touted agentic payments as a revolutionary technology on the cusp of widespread adoption, Qureshi is taking a more measured approach.
In an interview, Qureshi drew comparisons between the current state of agentic payments and the early days of computer mouse technology. He noted that despite its initial promise, it took decades for the mouse to become a mainstream tool. Similarly, he believes that agents are in a similar stage of development now.
Qureshi pointed out that current models handling tasks outside their training data are causing issues with reliability and accuracy. However, he sees potential for improvement with the integration of reinforcement learning, which would enable better decision-making capabilities. While this may lead to improved performance within months, widespread adoption is likely still years away.
