Zcash Price Plummets After Long-Hidden Bug Revelation

The cryptocurrency market has been sent into a frenzy following the revelation of a long-hidden bug in the Orchard shielded pool of Zcash (ZEC). The vulnerability, which had remained undetected since 2022, could have allowed malicious actors to create counterfeit ZEC without detection.

A security engineer identified the issue on May 29, 2026, and built a controlled exploit that successfully generated unlimited fake ZEC in a test environment. The discovery led to a coordinated emergency hard fork on June 3, which patched the vulnerability and restored protocol safety.
