Pudgy Penguins Invades Target Shelves with Pengu Plush Toys
Pudgy Penguins has made its biggest retail push yet by stocking over 1,800 Target stores nationwide with its Pengu plush toys. The launch marks a milestone for the brand, which has been building its consumer presence since 2023.
The plush toys feature characters Pax, Pengu, and Polly, manufactured under license by PMI Kids' World. The team behind Pudgy Penguins says the rollout is its first mainstream debut at this scale, with the products now available on all Target shelves across the USA.
The brand's licensing structure returns 5% of net revenue to NFT holders whose penguins appear on the products. This includes revenue from physical goods like toys and cards, which have also been introduced in Target stores.
Pudgy Penguins has seen significant sales over the past year, with CEO Luca Netz stating that the brand had moved over 1 million toys in the previous 12 months as of May 2024. The plush launch comes after the Vibes Series 3 trading cards arrived at Target in May, lifting the total cards in circulation to 15 million and introducing a crossover with the Moonbirds collection.
