Meta's AI Agent Development Slower Than Expected, Zuckerberg Reveals
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed concerns that AI agent development at his company is not progressing as quickly as expected. In a recent company meeting, he stated that the 'trajectory of the agentic development over at least the last four months hasn't really accelerated in the way that we expected.' This sentiment comes despite significant investments by Meta and other tech firms into this area.
Zuckerberg acknowledged that executives made an aggressive push into agentic infrastructure in January, driven by fears that they were not moving 'fast enough.' However, he remains optimistic about the potential of AI agents to drive growth, predicting that his company's AI investments will start paying off within the next three to six months.
The comments from Zuckerberg serve as a reality check for tech and crypto firms betting heavily on autonomous agents. Several companies have pivoted their business models to cater to these agents, including Meta itself. The firm recently expanded its Meta Business Agent globally across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, enabling businesses to respond to customer inquiries and make product recommendations without human intervention.
