Cardano's Leios Upgrade Aims for Lightning-Fast Transactions on Par with XRP Ledger

Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, is optimistic about the upcoming Ouroboros Leios upgrade. He believes it will increase the network's internal throughput by up to 60 times, making it comparable in speed to the XRP Ledger.

The XRP Ledger is known for its efficiency and has a reputation for settling transactions within three to five seconds with a maximum capacity of 1,500 transactions per second. The upgrade aims to achieve this level of performance without sacrificing decentralization or security, a challenge often referred to as the 'blockchain trilemma'.

Hoskinson emphasized that the upgrade will not compromise on the project's founding principles and is expected to be deployed before the end of 2026. A public testnet, named Musashi Dojo, has already been launched on June 23, 2026.

Additionally, Hoskinson defended Midnight City against criticism from Big Pey, who labeled it an example of wasteful spending within the ecosystem. The founder argued that the project is a key to understanding consumer experiences and adoption, stating 'Midnight City works as an interactive showcase for Midnight Network... Institutional interest supports that vision.'

Hoskinson also challenged Big Pey to return in a year and apologize for his criticism.
