France Leads Global Surge in Home Invasion Crypto Attacks

Crypto wrench attacks have been on the rise in the first half of 2026, according to blockchain security firm CertiK. The most common type of attack is home invasions, which rose from one incident in H1 2025 to 20 in H1 2026.

CertiK verified a total of 52 wrench attacks worldwide in the first half of 2026, up 33.3% from 39 incidents during the same period in 2025. This increase led to a significant rise in financial exposure, reaching about $124.1 million, up from $10.5 million a year earlier.

The majority of these attacks took place in Europe, with France being the epicenter, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the global total. French authorities have taken steps to combat this issue, launching a dedicated prevention platform and rapid-alert system for crypto holders and professionals.
