Bithumb Slapped with $135,700 Fine for Overseas Data Transfer Violations

Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission fined Bithumb $135,700 for violating rules on overseas data transfer. The regulator found that Bithumb transferred user information to a foreign exchange without proper consent during asset transfers in September and November 2025.

Bithumb shared order books with a foreign exchange and notified users that their information would be sent to the Stellar exchange, but it was actually transferred to bingx.com. The watchdog also found that Bithumb failed to obtain consent from users when sending their personal info to 13 foreign exchanges during asset transfers.

The commission decided to levy the penalty and order corrective measures against the company in a plenary session on Thursday. This is another regulatory issue for the major crypto exchange, which has faced criticism for its handling of user data.
