Crypto Market Tumbles as Bitcoin Hits Year-Low
The value of Bitcoin has plummeted to its lowest point in over a year, sparking concerns about a broader cryptocurrency market downturn. The world's leading digital currency fell below $59,000 on June 29, marking an almost 53% decline from its peak price of $126,000 reached just eight months prior.
The losses are not isolated to Bitcoin, as other major cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, Ripple, and Dogecoin have also experienced significant declines in value since the start of the year. The overall market has shrunk from a high of $4.28 trillion in October to around $2 trillion at the end of June.
Susannah Streeter, chief investment strategist at Wealth Club, attributed the downturn to 'cooling investor sentiment' and broader market turmoil caused by geopolitical events. She noted that the Trump administration's promised support for cryptocurrencies has yet to materialize, while renewed inflation fears and expectations of higher interest rates are weighing on speculative capital.
