North Korean Actors Drive Crypto Security Risks in 2026
Crypto security has taken a hit in 2026, with losses reaching $600 million due to major exploits linked to North Korean actors.
According to blockchain security firm CertiK, attackers have leveraged a mix of social engineering, infrastructure weaknesses, and advanced tooling to carry out some of the year's largest breaches. The pace and nature of attacks point to a more complex threat environment taking shape.
CertiK senior blockchain investigator Natalie Newson noted that real-time deepfakes, phishing campaigns, supply chain compromises, and cross-chain vulnerabilities are likely to sit at the center of major exploits heading into 2026.
