Zakura Full-Node Client Released Ahead of Ironwood Upgrade

A new full-node client called 'Zakura' for Zcash has been released by the development team led by Sean Bowe, a co-founder of Zcash and Project Tachyon.

Zakura is based on the Zebra implementation developed by the Zcash Foundation and features fast blockchain synchronization and compatibility with the old zcashd client.

The release comes ahead of the activation of network upgrade 'Ironwood' (NU6.3) on July 28, which will introduce a new shielded pool to mitigate the risk of forged coins created using a vulnerability discovered in May.

According to Taylor Hornby, who discovered the vulnerability, it allowed for an attacker to create undetectable counterfeit ZEC coins, potentially leading to over-issuance of the native token. However, no evidence of the vulnerability being exploited has been found.

The Ironwood upgrade will introduce a new network protocol that allows users to verify the issuance of tokens independently, reducing the risk of counterfeiting.
