Crypto Establishment: Nikhil Kamath Calls Out Coinbase CEO on Democratic Principles
Nikhil Kamath and Brian Armstrong, co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, engaged in a thought-provoking conversation on the 'People by WTF' podcast. Kamath, who has never invested in cryptocurrency, questioned whether crypto had become what it initially set out to be, a democratic and open system.
Kamath argued that Bitcoin started as a protest against governments printing money without consent, intermediaries, and permission itself. However, today, the first image that comes to mind is Donald Trump, and the movement has become the establishment. Armstrong disagreed, stating that crypto is inherently apolitical and his goal is to create a framework that outlasts any government.
The conversation turned to India's crypto tax regime, which Armstrong described as one of the most punitive regimes anywhere Coinbase operates. He emphasized that the barrier is policy, not technology, and advised Indian crypto users to make themselves visible to their government.
