Merchants Flock to Cryptocurrency Payment Options Worldwide
The world of cryptocurrency has become increasingly mainstream in recent years, with many merchants now accepting various digital assets as payment methods. According to Cryptwerk, over 7,820 companies worldwide accept cryptocurrencies, while maps show more than 35,000 venues globally.
Cryptocurrency adoption has been growing significantly, with on-chain activity increasing by substantial percentages in every region in 2025, as reported by Chainalysis.
The top five most popular coins among merchants are surprisingly not stablecoins. Dogecoin, a memecoin released in 2013, is one of the largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization and has over 2,500 places to spend it globally on Cryptwerk.
Other notable coins include Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and Ethereum, which have seen significant adoption among merchants due to their speed and utility. Bitcoin, the first-ever cryptocurrency, remains the leader in many aspects of the crypto world and is accepted by almost 7,000 businesses worldwide.
