Mount Pleasant Police Warn of Cryptocurrency and Gift Card Scams
The Mount Pleasant Police Department has issued a warning about the growing trend of cryptocurrency and gift card scams in the area.
According to investigators, more than $2.5 million has been stolen from residents this year through various forms of scams.
Beware of scammers demanding payment in cryptocurrency, as once the money is sent, it can't be recovered. Additionally, no agency or business will ever ask for payment using gift cards, and courier scams involve sending someone to pick up a payment at your home.
If you receive a suspicious call or email claiming to be from law enforcement, hang up, verify the source, and report it to help protect others.
