Binance Denies Scaling Back US Law Enforcement Cooperation Amid DOJ Memo Controversy
Binance has denied reports that it plans to scale back its cooperation with US law enforcement agencies. The exchange insists that its process for handling requests from American authorities remains unchanged, despite a recent Department of Justice (DOJ) memo suggesting otherwise.
The controversy emerged after reports surfaced that the DOJ had issued a memo warning prosecutors they could receive less assistance from Binance in crypto-related investigations. According to the memo, investigators would allegedly need to rely on Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLATs) instead of courtesy account freezes when seeking to freeze or seize assets.
Binance's Head of Corporate Communications has denied that the company plans to alter its relationship with US investigators. The spokesperson emphasized that Binance has already informed both the DOJ and ADGM that its process for handling requests from American law enforcement agencies will remain unchanged.
