Bitcoin Vulnerable to Quantum Computing Threats: 1.92 Million Bitcoins at Risk

A recent report from Glassnode highlights the potential risk of quantum computing attacks on Bitcoin's cryptographic foundations. The firm analyzed the blockchain and found that approximately 1.92 million Bitcoin, or around 9.6% of the total supply, are protected by legacy signature formats that may be vulnerable to advanced quantum algorithms.

These older signature types have not aged well against the trajectory of computing power, making them more susceptible to cracking under quantum attacks. The report emphasizes that this is not an immediate threat but rather a warning for the community to start developing countermeasures now.
