DeFi Industry Absorbs Shock After $292M KelpDAO Exploit
The decentralized finance (DeFi) industry has faced its share of challenges, but it seems to be emerging stronger from the latest stress test. A recent cyberattack on KelpDAO, which resulted in a $292 million exploit, triggered a system-wide shock that could have potentially led to long-term damage.
However, the DeFi ecosystem absorbed the shock without collapsing under it. This was largely due to a coordinated intervention by a coalition of DeFi protocols and industry participants who raised over $300 million to stabilize the system.
The incident highlighted the importance of structural fixes in improving the resilience of the DeFi system. AAVE's dominance in DeFi lending made it a natural concentration point for the attack, exposing underlying vulnerabilities that extend beyond a single protocol.
