Ethereum Exit Queue Surges 72,000% Amid DeFi Exploits
Ethereum's validator exit queue has experienced a significant surge in recent weeks, with the number of ETH waiting to be withdrawn increasing by over 72,000% in just two weeks.
The rapid growth of the exit queue is largely attributed to the wave of DeFi exploits that have swept through the decentralized finance sector. In April alone, $625 million was stolen across 30 incidents, with a particularly devastating breach occurring at KelpDAO's cross-chain bridge.
According to LayerZero, the Lazarus Group from North Korea was behind the heist, which resulted in the theft of 116,500 rsETH and caused significant ripples throughout lending markets. As a result, total value locked (TVL) in DeFi has dropped by approximately 30% over the past 12 weeks.
However, it's worth noting that the entry queue for staking remains much larger than exits, with 3.6 million ETH waiting to enter staking and a 62-day queue.
