Zcash Unveils 'Turnstile' Strategy to Lock Out Potential Counterfeit Coins
Zcash (ZEC) is preparing for an emergency strategy to preserve its mathematical integrity in the upcoming Ironwood hard fork, scheduled to activate on July 28, 2026, at block 3,428,143.
The 'turnstile' strategy aims to lock up any potentially forged ZEC by isolating the vulnerable Orchard pool and creating a new, clean one with corrected cryptography.
This will allow users to transfer funds from the old system to the new one through a special turnstile gateway, which strictly controls the balance and prevents more coins from leaving the old pool than actually entered throughout its entire history.
The counterfeit ZEC will remain permanently frozen inside the old pool if hidden issuance did occur, becoming digital waste.
