Crypto Use Doesn't Guarantee Anonymity: Bolivia-U.S. Investigation Uncovers Trafficker's Network

A joint investigation between Bolivia's Special Anti-Narcotics Force and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has shed light on the financial activities of an alleged Uruguayan drug trafficker, Sebastián Marset.

Marset, known as the 'modern Pablo Escobar,' was captured in Bolivia and is currently under U.S. custody, accused of laundering millions through crypto networks.

The investigation revealed a system of transactions primarily in cryptocurrencies, with couriers delivering bulk illicit currency in euros and using tokens to covertly transfer funds.

However, the use of blockchain analysis allowed investigators to map out Marset's financial empire and track down his network, dispelling the myth that cryptocurrency provides anonymity.
