New Hampshire Lawmakers Tackle Crypto Scams as State Warns of Court Impersonation Text Messages

The New Hampshire House has passed a bill aimed at combating cryptocurrency ATM scams, marking the latest effort by lawmakers to protect consumers from financial losses.

The legislation, which now heads to Governor Kelly Ayotte's desk, allows victims who report crypto-related fraud within 14 days to be reimbursed. Additionally, it requires operators of digital access transaction kiosks (crypto ATMs) to hold a customer's first deposit for at least 48 hours to give them time to cancel the transaction if they suspect a scam.

The bill also imposes daily limits on the amount of money that can be accepted from a person via a crypto ATM. The legislation has been endorsed by consumer advocates, who welcome any measures to prevent consumers from falling victim to cryptocurrency scams.
