Spacecoin Develops Blockchain-Enabled Satellite Constellation
Spacecoin is an ambitious project that seeks to create a decentralized internet network using blockchain-enabled satellites in low-Earth orbit.
The goal of the project is to establish a shared layer for the orbital economy, enabling communication and transactions between machines in space. This would solve the bottleneck issue of relying on terrestrial infrastructure for communication, which is particularly crucial for space-based data centers that require abundant solar energy and natural cooling.
Spacecoin has already made significant progress in deploying its physical infrastructure. In December 2024, the project launched its first satellite, CTC-0, establishing ground-to-satellite connectivity. The team then facilitated 'the world's first end-to-end blockchain transaction through space' in October 2025.
With three additional satellites launched in November 2025, Spacecoin expanded its network and enabled testing of intersatellite links. These direct links are essential for future orbital data centers, enabling direct satellite-to-satellite communication without routing every byte back through Earth.
