ESMA Adds 37 New Crypto Firms to Register in Post-MiCA Deadline Rush
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published its first update to the interim MiCA register, adding 37 new crypto-asset service providers. This brings the total number of authorized firms to 280.
The previous tally, as of June 26, was at 243. The addition of these 37 firms in a short period of time reflects the pressure on crypto firms to secure MiCA licenses before the July 1 deadline.
Some notable additions include Standard Chartered and FalconX, which have secured their MiCA authorizations from Luxembourg's financial regulator, the CSSF, and Malta's MFSA respectively. Other firms included in the list are Sygnum Europe, Ronin EM, and CACEIS.
The EU's transitional period for MiCA ended on July 1, allowing crypto firms that had been operating without a valid license to continue serving clients while pursuing authorization. After this date, any provider without a valid MiCA license was required to stop onboarding new clients and begin winding down operations in the EU.
