Kraken Abandons LayerZero for Chainlink's CCIP
After a major exploit highlighted the vulnerabilities of its cross-chain infrastructure, Kraken has announced that it will be replacing LayerZero with Chainlink's CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol). This move follows similar migrations by other platforms, including Kelp and Solv.
Kraken introduced its wrapped bitcoin token, kBTC, in 2024, which now has a market capitalization of $260 million. The crypto exchange said that Chainlink's CCIP will become the exclusive cross-chain service for its wrapped assets, including kBTC.
The migration will cover various blockchains, including Ink, Ethereum, Unichain, and Optimism, with others to follow. Kraken will continue to issue and custody its wrapped assets, while Chainlink will handle their movement under the Cross-Chain Token standard.
