Crypto.com Sues Customer Over Cronos Community Trademark Rights
Crypto.com has filed a lawsuit against one of its customers, Nathan Steele and Crofam.com LLC, over trademark rights to the CROFAM name used by the Cronos community.
The Singapore-based crypto exchange claims that Steele, who has been a customer since 2021, began claiming trademark rights to the word 'Crofam' despite knowing about Crypto.com's prior use of the hashtag #CROFAM on social media since at least 2021.
Crypto.com alleges that Steele formed Crofam.com in January 2023 and promoted a 'CROFAM App' on X, while also marketing a website with a mobile app, merchandise store, and purported CROFAM Wallet.
The exchange argues that the trademark filings were false and that Crofam.com didn't provide real credit card processing services, instead using PayPal and Venmo as payment methods.
