Man Sentenced for Role in $263M Crypto Laundering Operation

A 22-year-old man from Newport Beach, California, has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison for his involvement in laundering cryptocurrency. Evan Tangeman was part of a large-scale theft ring that stole over $263 million from a single victim.

The operation grew out of friendships formed on online gaming platforms and involved members from various states across the US and abroad. The group used the stolen funds to buy luxury items, including exotic cars and high-end watches.

Tangeman's specific role was to convert the stolen cryptocurrency into cash, which he then used to rent mansions for the group members. He also arranged housing in Miami when the group relocated there.
