Coinbase Secures UK Authorisation for Stocks and Derivatives

Coinbase has secured UK authorisation to offer investment services, expanding its capabilities beyond crypto. This new permission allows Coinbase to provide traditional financial instruments, including stocks and derivatives, to UK users.

The approval lets retail customers trade equities within the same account they use for crypto, while institutional or advanced traders gain access to derivatives, including crypto, equity, and commodity perpetual futures.

Coinbase's UK entity now holds three stacked permissions: e-money licence, crypto registration, and investment services. This combination gives Coinbase a head start in converting its existing UK crypto base into equities and derivatives users ahead of the 2027 regime.
