Coinbase Solidifies its Position as Crypto Prime Broker

Coinbase has made a significant move in the crypto market, announcing that it is now the only full-service prime broker in the industry. The company's integrated model combines trading, custody, financing, derivatives, and cross-margining into one platform, reducing capital requirements by 10-20% through cross-margining between spot and derivatives.

According to John D'Agostino, Coinbase Institutional strategy head, this model is a key differentiator for the company. 'If you can do all of those at scale, you're a prime,' he said in an interview.

Coinbase's platform holds over $350 billion in assets under custody and supports more than 470 assets, making it a leading player in the industry. The company also serves as custodian for over 80% of US bitcoin and ether ETF assets, positioning it as a key bridge between traditional finance and digital assets.
