Major Financial Institutions Complete Tokenized Treasury Settlement on XRP Ledger
A major breakthrough has been achieved in the field of cross-border payments with the successful completion of a tokenized Treasury settlement on the XRP Ledger. The test was conducted by JPMorgan Chase, Mastercard, Ripple, and Ondo Finance, which used Ondo's tokenized short-term U.S. government Treasuries product (OUSG) to settle a transaction near real-time and outside traditional banking windows.
The test used the XRP Ledger as the platform for tokenized asset redemption, while the dollar settlement was handled through bank infrastructure using Mastercard's Multi-Token Network (MTN). This integrated approach allowed for a seamless transfer of value between blockchain and traditional financial systems, demonstrating the potential for 24/7 tokenized asset redemptions.
According to Ondo, this test marks the first near real-time, cross-border, cross-bank redemption of a tokenized U.S. Treasury fund, and represents a significant step towards the widespread adoption of tokenized finance. The successful completion of the test has been hailed as a major achievement in the field of cross-border payments.
