Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown is facing a tough re-election battle, thanks in part to his previous criticism of cryptocurrency. As one of the toughest Capitol Hill critics of digital assets, Brown accused them of operating as a gateway to illegal activity and harming consumers.
However, since being declared persona non grata by pro-crypto entities in 2024, Brown has adopted a more measured approach on the campaign trail. The former Senate banking committee chairman is now seeking to topple a crypto-friendly rival, Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH), in the upcoming election.
Brown's opponents have invested heavily in his defeat, with pro-crypto groups dumping $40 million into the effort. This significant war chest puts Brown at a disadvantage as he seeks to regain his old job.
