CFTC and SEC Review Derivative Regulations Amid Perpetual Futures Dispute
The CFTC and SEC are reviewing their derivative regulations in response to growing disputes over perpetual futures. The review aims to provide more clarity in financial markets, which have seen the emergence of crypto derivatives.
The regulators are seeking public comments on topics such as definitions of 'swaps' and 'security-based swaps.' They also want input on how new financial products should be treated under existing regulations.
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig stated that the review will help address unanswered issues regarding Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act, promoting healthy competition and responsible innovation.
