Oman Mandates National Bitcoin Mining Pool Under Government Oversight
Oman has taken a significant step in regulating its cryptocurrency mining industry by launching a mandatory national Bitcoin mining pool. The pool, Omanhash.com, is operated by Enegix Global and Frontier Technologies LLC, an Omani blockchain company, with the approval of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The Omanhash.om pool will consolidate around 10 exahashes per second of computing power in its initial phase. This hashrate matters for Bitcoin as it directly affects mining revenue, energy consumption, and the flow of newly minted coins.
By pulling mining into a structured system, Oman is not trying to ban or restrict the activity but rather increase transparency and visibility into mining operations. The country has been actively promoting industrial-scale mining investment since 2022, with total investments in mining and data center infrastructure surpassing $700 million in the Salalah Free Zone.
Enegix Global's Omanhash.om is its second sovereign-pool contract, following btcpool.kz in Kazakhstan. The company aims to grow its combined pool hashrate to 30 EH/s, combining operations across three pools.
