White House Meets with Senators on CLARITY Act Ethics Provision

The White House is set to meet with senators on Thursday to discuss the ethics provision of the CLARITY Act, which would cap senior officials' personal crypto business interests. The measure has been a major sticking point in getting the bill to a floor vote in the Senate. President Trump's own $1 billion-plus in 2025 crypto income is at the center of the controversy.

Senator Ruben Gallego, the lead Democratic negotiator on ethics, reportedly was not invited to the meeting. The White House has not commented on the plans for the meeting.

The CLARITY Act aims to provide clarity and transparency in the digital asset market. However, Democrats have called for limits on the president, vice president, and members of Congress using crypto, citing concerns over conflicts of interest.

The Senate will adjourn after the first week of August, leaving little time for negotiations. The fate of the bill hangs in the balance as lawmakers prepare to shift their focus to the November midterm elections.
