Ripple Secures EU CASP License Amid Growing Crypto Industry Expansion
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has released an updated list of Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs), which now includes 294 companies, a significant increase from the previous edition published in July. Among them is Ripple Payments Europe, the European subsidiary of Ripple, which has obtained its CASP license.
The addition of 14 new crypto businesses to the MiCA Register reflects the growing interest in regulated crypto services within the EU. This expansion also highlights the increasing participation of traditional financial organizations in the industry.
Germany's cooperative banks, Volksbank Schwarzwald-Donau-Neckar and Raiffeisenbank Auerbach-Freihung, have been approved for MiCA licensing, as well as private bank Kaiser Partner Privatbank from Liechtenstein. Other financial organizations that have obtained MiCA licensing include Spanish BBVA and CaixaBank, German Commerzbank, French CACEIS Bank, and Standard Chartered Luxembourg.
The CASP registry saw no changes in the EMT and ART registers, with 21 issuers approved for the EMT register but zero issuers listed under the ART register. ESMA also updated its list of non-compliant cryptocurrency businesses after an intervention by CONSOB of Italy, adding Reversal Investment Group and Kortex to the list.
