BitPay, one of the oldest cryptocurrency companies, has secured a MiCA license from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), enabling it to support regulated cryptocurrency payment services across the European Union.
The license allows BitPay B.V., its European subsidiary, to process payments, facilitate cross-border transactions, and enable consumers to spend, manage, and trade digital assets. This expansion marks a significant growth point for BitPay's ability to serve European customers under a unified regulatory framework.
BitPay's Chief Compliance Officer Europe, Thom de Jong, said the MiCA authorization 'strengthens our ability to serve businesses and consumers with regulated digital asset services across the EU.' The company has already received money transmitter licenses in key jurisdictions and is expanding its global presence.
