Dream Market Administrator Charged with Crypto-to-Gold Laundering
A new development has emerged in the case of the defunct darknet marketplace Dream Market. Owe Martin Andresen, a German citizen, has been charged by the US Department of Justice with laundering over $2 million in cryptocurrency proceeds from the platform.
According to the indictment, Andresen allegedly moved funds from dormant Dream Market wallets into gold bars, which were then shipped to Germany. The converted crypto reportedly went straight into physical gold, bypassing traditional mixing services entirely.
The case highlights the evolving tactics of law enforcement in tracking cryptocurrency transactions. By tracing on-chain activity and identifying patterns, investigators have been able to follow the movement of assets and track their conversion into physical goods.
