US Sanctions Sinaloa Cartel Crypto Laundering Ring, Venezuela Shuts Down Massive Mining Farm
The US government has taken a significant step in combating illicit cryptocurrency activity by sanctioning six individuals and two companies linked to the Sinaloa cartel's money laundering scheme. According to OFAC, the designated individuals and entities are involved in collecting bulk cash deliveries from the sale of illicit drugs such as fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine, and converting them into cryptocurrency for transfer to the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico.
The sanctioned group is accused of organizing a complex scheme to process and convert bulk cash deliveries into cryptocurrency. This allows them to launder money more efficiently and avoid detection by law enforcement agencies. The US government aims to disrupt the flow of illicit funds generated from these activities, particularly fentanyl flows entering the country.
