Cryptocurrency Community Reels from Quadrillion-Token Bridge Hack
A recent hacking incident has left the cryptocurrency community reeling as a malicious actor exploited the Butter Network's cross-chain bridge infrastructure. The attacker created an astronomical 1 quadrillion MAPO tokens, approximately 100,000 times the token's entire circulating supply.
The devastating attack triggered a 96% price collapse within hours, with the token's value plummeting from $0.003 to $0.0001. Map Protocol has halted mainnet operations and is transitioning to a new smart contract.
The incident highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in cross-chain bridge security architecture, which was previously highlighted by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin as structurally inferior compared to individual blockchains.
