Polygon Surges Past $80B in Stablecoin Volume, Leads Blockchain Transactions
Polygon, a leading blockchain network, has reached a significant milestone in May, processing $79.25 billion in stablecoin volume, its second-highest month ever. This achievement solidifies Polygon's position as the top-performing blockchain in terms of transaction count for the month, with an impressive 198 million USD-denominated stablecoin transactions processed.
The network's cumulative stablecoin transfer volume has now surpassed $2.4 trillion, with a majority of activity centered on USDC and USDT, the two dominant dollar-pegged stablecoins. Transaction fees on Polygon average around $0.002, making it an attractive option for users seeking cost-effective transactions.
Polygon's recent strategic moves have contributed to its success. In January, the network acquired Coinme and Sequence for a combined $250 million, aimed at expanding its reach into consumer-facing crypto payments and developer tooling. The addition of Polygon to Visa's global stablecoin settlement pilot in April has also boosted its growth, reaching a $7 billion annualized run rate.
