DeFi Bridge Attacks Expose Sector's Security Vulnerabilities
The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector has experienced a surge in bridge attacks in 2026, resulting in significant losses totaling $328.6 million. These attacks have raised concerns among investors about the security of DeFi protocols.
According to data from DefiLlama, the total value locked in DeFi platforms dropped by $14 billion following a recent exploit of KelpDAO's cross-chain bridge. This incident highlights the vulnerabilities in DeFi bridges and their potential impact on the entire sector.
The increasing complexity of DeFi protocols is making it challenging for investors to assess risks and rewards. Misha Putiatin, CEO of Statemind, notes that large institutional investors are hesitant to enter the DeFi market due to security concerns.
