Pudgy Penguins Abandons Mobile Game Amid Web3 Gaming Woes
Pudgy Penguins' mobile game Pudgy Party has been shut down less than a year after its launch in August 2025. The decision to halt development was made despite the game's initial success, with over 1 million total downloads across different platforms.
The team behind Pudgy Penguins is now shifting its focus towards Pudgy World, a browser-based game that promises greater scalability and accessibility compared to mobile platforms. This move may indicate a more pragmatic direction for the company, favoring user-friendly gaming experiences over NFT mechanics.
However, the shutdown of Pudgy Party highlights the ongoing difficulties facing Web3 gaming projects in maintaining a sustainable product-market fit. The sector has been struggling with finding growth and monetization models, as evident from the decline in NFT market capitalization to around $1.5 billion in 2026, down from its peak of over $17 billion in 2022.
