North Korean IT Unit Exposed for $3.5 Million in Crypto Hacks
A counterhacker has exposed the activities of a North Korean unit that made over $3.5 million in just a few months by working as developers while attempting to hack crypto projects.
The leaked data revealed that one of the IT workers, 'Jerry,' and his team of 140 members were making roughly $1 million a month. This group used fake identities and coordinated payments on a website called 'luckyguys.site' using a shared password.
According to blockchain sleuth ZachXBT, who obtained the leaked data, some users on this platform appeared to work for sanctioned organizations such as Sobaeksu, Saenal, and Songkwang. The group also used online payment platforms like Payoneer to convert crypto payments into fiat and send them to Chinese bank accounts.
