Quantum Risk Quantified: ARK Invest's New Research Exposes Bitcoin Vulnerabilities
Quantum computing has been looming over the cryptocurrency space as a potential threat for years, but recent research from ARK Invest aims to provide clarity on the issue.
The white paper, jointly published with Unchained and shared by Benzinga, identifies approximately 6.9 million Bitcoin (around 35% of the total circulating supply) that could be vulnerable to quantum attacks due to exposed public keys.
ARK's own estimate suggests breaking a single Bitcoin public key would require around 2,330 logical qubits and billions of quantum gate operations – hardware that does not yet exist. However, this raises concerns about what might happen when such technology becomes available.
