Ripple Labs Burns Nine Million RLUSD Stablecoins from Circulation
Ripple Labs has made significant moves in managing its RLUSD stablecoin supply. In the latest development, the blockchain payment firm permanently removed nine million RLUSD tokens from circulation via burning. This burn is notable as it reduces the circulating supply of RLUSD and demonstrates Ripple's proactive approach to maintaining a perfect 1:1 backing for audits.
The burn is one of several large treasury burns reported by the Ripple Stablecoin Tracker, which monitors on-chain activity for RLUSD. These routine burns occur during redemptions or rebalancing, ensuring that reserves are fully backed and supply is managed surgically. When demand spikes, Ripple mints tokens to meet it, and when demand cools, they burn excess supply.
The market cap of RLUSD has grown substantially since its debut in December 2024, reaching $1.5 billion with a trading volume of $113.8 million. The community has been hyped about reaching the $2 billion milestone, but aggressive burns like this one have slowed net growth and stalled supply. However, the latest burns demonstrate healthy management practices and real redemptions, indicating institutional use rather than speculative hype.
