McHenry Sees CLARITY Act as Next-Generation Telecoms Act for Crypto Market
U.S. Congressman Patrick McHenry has expressed support for the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at establishing consumer protection mechanisms and embracing emerging technology developments in the crypto market.
In an article titled 'The time for Clarity is here: The next-generation Telecoms Act,' McHenry drew parallels between the CLARITY Act and the 1996 Telecommunications Act. He believes that timely legislation can move a country forward, while legislative stagnation may cause it to fall behind in key technology sectors.
McHenry stated that his experience serving in Congress for over 20 years has shown him that U.S. financial regulation has been in 'crisis response mode' since the 2008 financial crisis. He considers the CLARITY Act as an opportunity to break this pattern and become the first major proactive reform to build the future financial system in nearly 30 years.
The bill enjoys broad bipartisan support and is being advanced through coordination among multiple Congressional committees. McHenry emphasized that regulatory certainty for the digital asset industry, consumer protection, and equipping law enforcement agencies with tools to combat crime are essential for maintaining the U.S.'s competitive edge.
