Base Network Targets June 25 for Beryl Upgrade with New Token Standard
Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network Base is planning to upgrade its mainnet to Beryl on June 25, which will introduce a new B20 token standard designed to make token creation and storage more efficient.
The B20 standard aims to reduce costs associated with token creation, state storage overhead, and L2 gas usage, making it more attractive for token issuers, DeFi apps, and meme-coin communities.
Base has become one of the most active Ethereum Layer-2 networks due to its combination of Coinbase distribution and low-cost on-chain activity, which makes technical upgrades worth watching, especially when they affect the economics of token creation and smart contract usage.
